Job Summary
The Supervisor, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and oversight of EMS operations, including clinical performance, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and community engagement. This role serves as a key liaison between EMS personnel, hospital leadership, and external partners, ensuring that prehospital services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with facility standards and applicable regulations.
Essential Functions
The Supervisor, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and oversight of EMS operations, including clinical performance, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and community engagement. This role serves as a key liaison between EMS personnel, hospital leadership, and external partners, ensuring that prehospital services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in alignment with facility standards and applicable regulations.
Essential Functions
- Supervises EMS personnel and ensures compliance with state, local, and facility regulations, as well as Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
- Oversees EMS operational performance, staffing, and scheduling to ensure consistent and efficient emergency response coverage.
- Develops, reviews, and updates EMS-related policies and procedures, aligning with regulatory and hospital guidelines.
- Monitors budget adherence and provides input on capital planning and equipment procurement needs.
- Coordinates with hospital leadership, including Nursing and Quality departments, to implement performance improvement initiatives and ensure high standards of patient care.
- Assists in strategic planning and evaluation of EMS operations; identifies performance gaps and implements corrective actions.
- Conducts ongoing education and competency assessments of EMS staff and ensures staff proficiency.
- Represents the hospital in community outreach, including meetings with County EMS, fire departments, law enforcement, and other emergency services personnel.
- Participates in emergency preparedness planning and exercises to ensure readiness for disaster or mass casualty events.
- Maintains accurate records and documentation related to EMS operations, regulatory compliance, and performance improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Associate Degree in Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Healthcare Administration, Public Safety, or a related field required
- 3-5 years of experience in Emergency Medical Services required
- 1-2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in EMS or a related field preferred
- In-depth knowledge of EMS operations, regulations, and clinical protocols.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply state, local, and federal EMS regulations.
- Skilled in performance improvement, training, and staff development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EMS software systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in high-pressure situations.
- RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure required or
- EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Certification required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
- PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support required
