Job Summary
The Student Support Education Specialist coordinates the day-to-day operations and management of medical student education. Serves as liaison between LMU-DCOM, medical students, teaching physicians and hospital administration. Coordinates all student activities including but not limited to: orientation, scheduling, evaluation, lectures and test proctoring. This position will be a visible and accessible presence for students and faculty.
Essential Functions
The Student Support Education Specialist coordinates the day-to-day operations and management of medical student education. Serves as liaison between LMU-DCOM, medical students, teaching physicians and hospital administration. Coordinates all student activities including but not limited to: orientation, scheduling, evaluation, lectures and test proctoring. This position will be a visible and accessible presence for students and faculty.
Essential Functions
- Refers interested physicians to LMU-DCOM for credentialing as adjunct faculty and maintains credentialing records/curriculum vitas.
- Maintains an up-to-date inventory of rotations available at hospital.
- Schedules student rotations and faculty resources; resolves scheduling conflicts; verifies student attendance at rotations.
- Distributes information about the hospital and community to medical students who are selecting core sites. May coordinate student visits to the hospital.
- Organizes and oversees new medical student orientation. Informs students of hospital policies and procedures.
- Advises students on issues such as housing, dining, and community activities.
- Coordinates information services assignments such as pagers and computer access.
- Manages scheduling of facilities and space required for student use. Supervises maintenance of learning materials including books, journals, computers.
- CD ROMS and other audio-visual materials.
- Assures student evaluations are completed by adjunct faculty.
- Proctors end-of-rotation exams.
- Identifies local resources for subspecialty rotations that are not available at the hospital.
- Coordinates communication, reporting and maintenance of records with LMU-DCOM. Coordinates invoicing and distribution of any payments associated with student education.
- May arrange faculty lectures and conferences such as journal club. May coordinate CME program.
- May organize and provide staff support to hospital medical education committee.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 0-1 years of experience in a hospital or education setting, managing programs in medical education or higher education required
- Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness, and problem solving abilities
- Interpersonal and human resources management skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
