Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Compute Engineer to join our team and take ownership of critical aspects of our compute infrastructure. This role involves supporting virtualization environments, managing end-of-life systems, resolving threats, and enhancing resiliency. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams to ensure the reliability and security of our systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Virtualization Support: Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • End-of-Life Management: Plan and execute the decommissioning of outdated systems while ensuring seamless transitions to new technologies.
  • Threat Resolution: Identify, analyze, and mitigate security threats to protect compute systems and data.
  • Resiliency Enhancement: Design and implement strategies to improve system reliability and disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Performance Monitoring: Continuously monitor compute systems to identify and address performance bottlenecks.
  • Automation: Develop and implement automated solutions to streamline operations and reduce manual intervention.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate compute solutions with organizational goals.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and training to junior engineers on best practices and emerging technologies.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in compute engineering or a related field.
  • Expertise in virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
  • Strong understanding of security protocols and threat mitigation strategies.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery and high-availability setups.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with containerization platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Familiarity with service level objectives (SLOs) and error budgets.
