Job Summary
The Senior Director Purchased Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for enterprise-wide cost optimization, sourcing, and materials management initiatives. This role ensures the efficient procurement and utilization of supplies, services, and equipment to support organizational goals. The Senior Director collaborates with cross-functional teams, including facilities, IT, clinical, financial, and operational stakeholders, to drive innovation, optimize expenses, and mitigate risks.
Essential Functions
The Senior Director Purchased Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for enterprise-wide cost optimization, sourcing, and materials management initiatives. This role ensures the efficient procurement and utilization of supplies, services, and equipment to support organizational goals. The Senior Director collaborates with cross-functional teams, including facilities, IT, clinical, financial, and operational stakeholders, to drive innovation, optimize expenses, and mitigate risks.
Essential Functions
- Develops and implements enterprise-wide sourcing and category management strategies to optimize cost savings and ensure supply chain resilience.
- Oversees the sourcing process for multiple categories, including market research, bid management, RFP/RFI processes, contract negotiation, and execution.
- Provides strategic direction to sourcing teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and adherence to timelines and quality standards.
- Negotiates and finalizes contracts, leveraging business acumen and legal expertise to secure favorable terms, mitigate risks, and ensure supplier compliance.
- Evaluates supplier performance, identifying opportunities for improved pricing, utilization, and operational efficiencies while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
- Leads innovation and research into emerging technologies, collaborating with clinical and business stakeholders to assess and integrate new products and services.
- Develops and mentors Strategic Sourcing Managers and Directors, enhancing their skills in negotiation, contract management, stakeholder communication, and category strategy.
- Monitors and analyzes market trends, supplier landscapes, and competitive intelligence to inform strategic decisions and ensure organizational preparedness.
- Facilitates cross-functional teams, including facilities, clinical, financial, and legal experts, to align sourcing strategies with organizational objectives and secure stakeholder consensus.
- Proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings and value improvement.
- Demonstrated success leading high performing, cross-functional teams in complex environments.
- Prepares and presents strategic plans and performance metrics to executive leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment with enterprise goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to analyze complex data and translate into actionable strategies.
- Deep knowledge of purchased services categories (e.g. IT, facilities, clinical services).
- Strong collaboration skills with internal stakeholders.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Economics, or a related field required
- Master's Degree preferred
- 8-10 years of experience in a supply chain healthcare setting with experience in project management, value analysis, purchased services contracting, and healthcare contracting required
- 4-6 years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting required
- IT and/or Facilities and Infrastructure contracting experience preferred
- Corporate experience in a multi-hospital setting, MMIS experience with Oracle, and experience with GHX and Healthcare Group Purchasing Organization preferred
- Deep expertise in strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, and category management principles.
- Strong analytical and financial skills to evaluate data and develop actionable insights.
- Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities to build and manage high-performing teams.
- Advanced communication and collaboration skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, including facilities, clinical, operational, and vendor partners.
- In-depth knowledge of supply chain technologies and emerging industry trends.
- Results driven with a focus on accountability and execution.
