Job Summary

The Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) is an advanced-level radiologic professional who supports the supervising Radiologist in providing diagnostic and interventional imaging services. The RPA performs patient assessments, assists with and conducts imaging procedures, participates in patient management, and prepares preliminary reports for physician review. Operating under the supervision and direction of a Radiologist, the RPA ensures the safe, effective, and compassionate delivery of radiologic care.

Essential Functions
  • Performs diagnostic imaging procedures and interventional radiology exams as credentialed and in accordance with established protocols, under the supervision of a Radiologist.
  • Assists the Radiologist with image-guided procedures, providing technical expertise and ensuring proper patient preparation and positioning.
  • Obtains informed consent for procedures, explains exam processes, and ensures patient comfort and safety throughout the imaging process.
  • Assesses and documents patient medical history and clinical indications for imaging, integrating this information into exam planning and execution.
  • Evaluates imaging results, prepares preliminary technical reports, and collaborates with the supervising physician for final interpretation and documentation.
  • Provides physician-directed post-procedure care instructions and answers patient questions regarding follow-up or care.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities to ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and institutional standards.
  • Administers or orders contrast media and intravenous medications under the supervision of a physician, monitoring for potential reactions or complications.
  • Consults with the supervising physician to determine the need for additional imaging or follow-up procedures.
  • Collaborates with technologists, nursing, and other clinical staff to coordinate imaging services and support timely patient care delivery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • 2-4 years of clinical experience in diagnostic radiology required
  • Prior experience performing advanced imaging procedures preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong clinical knowledge of radiographic anatomy, pathology, and interventional techniques.
  • Proficient in using imaging equipment, PACS, and RIS systems.
  • Ability to assess patient condition and respond appropriately to emergent situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, physicians, and staff.
  • Commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and patient-centered care.
Licenses and Certifications
  • (R) ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer required
  • CBRPA - Radiology Practitioner Assistant (RPA) required
  • Licensed Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire required
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
