Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Sepsis Coordinator is a key member of our Sepsis Care Program, functioning as a clinical expert and team leader. This role is responsible for evaluating sepsis care across the organization, identifying opportunities for improvement, and providing both real-time and formal education for all disciplines involved in sepsis care, core measures, readmissions, and related clinical quality initiatives. Working under the supervision of the Quality Management Director/Chief Quality Officer, the Sepsis Coordinator also supports process improvement projects tied to value-based purchasing programs and organizational quality outcomes.

Essential Functions
Coordinates and leads sepsis program initiatives to improve early identification, treatment compliance, and patient outcomes across the facility.
Collaborates with clinical and ancillary departments to enhance the success of sepsis care and value-based purchasing programs.
Serves as the subject matter expert (SME) and liaison for state and regulatory sepsis-related quality initiatives.
Evaluates patient and program performance data, identifies trends, and implements interventions to improve outcomes.
Develops weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and presentations on sepsis care processes and value-based purchasing metrics for stakeholders.
Provides staff development, education, and competency training related to sepsis protocols, core measures, and evidence-based practice.
Collaborates with Quality Management and Clinical Documentation teams to improve provider documentation and abstraction accuracy for sepsis criteria and core measures.
Leads multidisciplinary collaboration between physicians, nursing, and hospital departments to optimize sepsis patient care.
Develops patient education materials and supports community awareness related to sepsis prevention and treatment.
Participates in audits, chart reviews, regulatory readiness, and accreditation reviews under Quality Management leadership.
Co-chairs the Sepsis Program Committee and supports additional quality improvement initiatives as assigned.
Promotes organizational excellence through leadership, process improvement, and adherence to patient safety standards.

Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in an acute care setting required
ICU and/or Emergency Department experience preferred
Experience with clinical data sets, quality metrics, data analysis, and process improvement initiatives preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong knowledge of sepsis protocols, core measures, value-based purchasing, and quality improvement methodologies
Knowledge of basic statistics, data analysis, and healthcare performance metrics
Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office or Google Suite programs
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Ability to educate, mentor, and influence interdisciplinary teams
Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to interact effectively with physicians, clinical leaders, and diverse staff members

Licenses and Certifications
RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure in New Mexico required
BCLS - Basic Life Support required
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
