Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapy Technician - Certified provides direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed Respiratory Therapist or Physician, delivering therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory treatments. This role supports patients with respiratory conditions by administering prescribed therapies, operating specialized equipment, and monitoring patient responses. The Respiratory Therapy Technician ensures compliance with organizational protocols and regulatory standards while fostering a safe and supportive care environment.

Essential Functions
  • Administers respiratory treatments, such as aerosol therapies, chest physiotherapy, and oxygen therapy, as prescribed by physicians or licensed therapists.
  • Monitors and evaluates patients' responses to respiratory therapies, reporting observations and changes in condition to supervising staff.
  • Operates and maintains respiratory equipment, including ventilators, nebulizers, and oxygen delivery systems, ensuring functionality and adherence to safety standards.
  • Assists in conducting diagnostic tests, such as pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas sampling, under supervision.
  • Educates patients and families on respiratory therapies, equipment usage, and techniques to manage respiratory conditions.
  • Documents all treatments, observations, and patient progress in electronic medical records (EMRs) accurately and timely.
  • Maintains compliance with infection control protocols, including sterilization and cleaning of respiratory equipment.
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the optimization of respiratory care services.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations, assisting in the stabilization of patients with acute respiratory needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • 0-2 years of experience in a clinical respiratory care setting required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Comprehensive understanding of respiratory therapy techniques, equipment, and treatment protocols.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting respiratory equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient education and collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Knowledge of infection control practices and safety standards in respiratory care.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to dynamic care environments.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CRTT - Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
State Specific Requirements
  • Georgia: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required within 90 days of employment.
