Job Summary

The Neuroscience Technician I performs routine neurodiagnostic testing and monitoring under the supervision of senior technologists or clinical staff. This role supports the neurological care team by preparing patients, operating specialized equipment, and collecting data to assist in the diagnosis of neurological conditions. The Neuroscience Technician I works in a variety of care environments, including inpatient units, intensive care settings, and diagnostic labs, and provides basic technical and clinical support to ensure quality testing and patient safety.

Essential Functions
  • Prepares patients for neurodiagnostic procedures such as EEG monitoring, explaining processes and ensuring proper electrode placement and signal quality.
  • Performs basic EEG monitoring in various clinical environments, including medical-surgical units, critical care, and bedside locations.
  • Assists with long- and short-term monitoring of neurological conditions, collecting data for interpretation by neurologists or senior technologists.
  • Sets up and operates specialized neurodiagnostic equipment, adhering to safety and procedural protocols.
  • Communicates with providers, senior technicians, and nursing staff to report observations and escalate clinical concerns.
  • Assists in identifying patient and family learning needs, providing appropriate education regarding procedures.
  • Maintains detailed documentation of testing, equipment usage, and patient responses in accordance with department standards.
  • Supports maintenance and calibration of equipment, reporting issues or concerns as needed.
  • Follows lab safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Performs basic administrative and clinical tasks, including patient transport, supply tracking, and coordination with other departments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • 0-1 years of experience in a healthcare or patient care setting required
  • Prior experience assisting with EEG or neurodiagnostic procedures preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic understanding of neurodiagnostic testing procedures and neurological conditions.
  • Familiarity with EEG equipment and monitoring protocols.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Ability to follow instructions, adhere to protocols, and document information accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a clinical environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and following safety procedures.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
