Job Summary
The Medical Assistant - Urgent Care Center supports urgent care providers by delivering high-quality, patient-centered clinical and administrative support. This role performs routine clinical tasks such as preparing patients for examinations, performing vital signs, assisting with clinical procedures such as collecting specimens, medication administration, and splinting. Additional responsibilities include, documenting histories in the EMR, while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA standards. The Medical Assistant ensures operational efficiency through administrative support, quality assurance oversight, and may travel between Urgent Care clinics as needed to meet staffing and patient care needs. This role supports timely, efficient patient care in a fast-paced, walk-in clinical setting.

Job Summary
The Medical Assistant - Urgent Care Center supports urgent care providers by delivering high-quality, patient-centered clinical and administrative support. This role performs routine clinical tasks such as preparing patients for examinations, performing vital signs, assisting with clinical procedures such as collecting specimens, medication administration, and splinting. Additional responsibilities include, documenting histories in the EMR, while maintaining compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA standards. The Medical Assistant ensures operational efficiency through administrative support, quality assurance oversight, and may travel between Urgent Care clinics as needed to meet staffing and patient care needs. This role supports timely, efficient patient care in a fast-paced, walk-in clinical setting.
Essential Functions
- Prepares exam rooms and assists with rooming patients, including taking vital signs, obtaining medical histories, and reason for visit, documenting those in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Prepares patients for examinations, procedures, or diagnostic testing and assists providers during treatment as needed, ensuring they are comfortable and well informed.
- Supports providers during examinations and procedures by anticipating needs and ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available.
- Assists with specimen collection, including blood, urine, and oral swabs, and processing under supervision and in accordance with facility protocols.
- Provides patients with clear instructions for follow-up care or diagnostic testing as directed by the provider.
- Administers medications and non-intravenous injections, including intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal injections as directed by the provider and in accordance with scope of certification.
- Maintains clean, stocked exam rooms and performs basic equipment sanitization between patient visits. Performs basic clinical, aseptic, and laboratory procedures to support patient care.
- Performs administrative support tasks such as check-in, registration, and patient documentation as needed.
- Monitors patient flow and collaborates with the care team to support efficient care delivery and reduced wait times.
- Responds to basic patient questions and relays more complex inquiries to the provider or appropriate staff member.
- Adheres to infection control protocols, privacy standards, and facility policies.
- Supports staffing and operational needs by traveling to other Urgent Care locations as required.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including some weekends and holidays.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting working as a Medical Assistant required
- 1-2 years of experience in a clinical, urgent care setting, or ambulatory care setting preferred
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, walk-in urgent care environment.
- Basic understanding of clinical procedures, vital sign collection, and medical terminology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a positive, proactive approach to patient care and collaboration.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Proficiency in navigating EMR systems or willingness to learn.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA required or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)-American Medical Technologists required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required
