Job Summary
The Mammography Technologist I is responsible for performing screening and diagnostic mammography procedures to assist in the detection and diagnosis of breast diseases. Job Summary
The Mammography Technologist I is responsible for performing screening and diagnostic mammography procedures to assist in the detection and diagnosis of breast diseases. The Mammography Technologist I works collaboratively with Radiologists and other healthcare professionals, ensuring accurate imaging and patient comfort while maintaining compliance with state, federal, and regulatory standards, including FDA/MQSA and ACR requirements.
Essential Functions
- Performs mammography imaging procedures, ensuring high-quality screening and diagnostic images through proper positioning, technique, and compression.
 - Adheres to safety protocols, radiation protection standards, and infection control guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.
 - Ensures equipment functionality and maintenance, performing routine quality control testing per ACR and FDA/MQSA requirements.
 - Reviews physician orders and patient history, ensuring all mammography procedures are correctly ordered, verified, and acknowledged.
 - Educates patients on breast health, self-exam techniques, and procedure expectations, addressing concerns with professionalism.
 - Assists radiologists with specialized mammography procedures, including fine needle aspiration (FNA), needle localizations, and biopsies, while maintaining sterile technique.
 - Prepares patients for invasive mammography-guided procedures, providing clear instructions and post-procedure care guidance.
 - Maintains accurate documentation and image storage as required by state, federal, and accreditation regulations.
 - Manages mammography inventory and supplies, ensuring cost-effective use and proper stock levels for daily operations.
 - Performs other duties as assigned.
 - Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
 - Complies with all policies and standards.
 
- 1-3 years of experience in radiologic imaging required
 - 2-4 years experience as a mammographer in an acute care hospital setting preferred
 
- Proficiency in mammographic positioning, imaging techniques, and radiation safety standards.
 - Strong understanding of FDA/MQSA, ACR, and state regulatory compliance requirements for mammography.
 - Ability to effectively communicate and provide patient education with empathy and professionalism.
 - Knowledge of aseptic and surgical techniques for mammography-guided procedures.
 - Attention to detail in documenting patient information, reports, and image storage requirements.
 - Proficiency in PACS, electronic medical records (EMR), and mammography equipment operation.
 - Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills in technical troubleshooting and patient care situations.
 
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required
 - ARRT Radiography Certification required and
 - (M) ARDMS or ARRT - Mammography certification or eligibility to obtain within six (6) months of hire required
 - BCLS - Basic Life Support required
