Job Summary
The Medical Assistant Lead - Urgent Care Center supports daily operations of the Urgent Care Center by serving as the primary on-site resource for staff training, competency development, and workflow support. The Medical Assistant Lead mentors and orients new team members, reinforces adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory requirements, and promotes a consistent, patient-centered care environment. The Medical Assistant Lead collaborates with center leadership to ensure high-quality service delivery, reliable processes, and a cohesive clinical team.
Essential Functions
- Performs ongoing training, orientation, and competency development for clinical staff, supporting new hires through the initial training period and facilitating ongoing skills reinforcement.
- Communicates coaching points, workflow guidance, and feedback in a professional and supportive manner that reflects organizational values.
- Conducts competency evaluations for clinical service representatives and Medical Assistants at hire and annually; identifies skill gaps and assists with remediation plans.
- Maintains new-hire training documentation, supports chart audits, and assists with quality assurance activities to promote accuracy and compliance.
- Maintains an advanced working knowledge of the electronic medical record and partners with appropriate team members to support best practices, documentation standards, and workflow consistency.
- Ensures team members receive appropriate training for their assigned roles and escalates training needs or performance concerns to the Practice Manager or training team as appropriate.
- Serves as the site lead for compliance activities, including but not limited to laboratory standards, X-ray safety, OSHA requirements, and regulated waste handling.
- Assists with operational needs by traveling to other Urgent Care Center locations to provide training, coverage, or workflow support as required.
- Performs all responsibilities of the Medical Assistant role, including patient triage, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, EKGs, wound care, medication administration within scope, immunizations, and documentation in the electronic health record.
- Works 12-hour shifts, including weekends and rotating holidays, based on operational needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 3-5 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting required
- Experience in an urgent care, emergency care, or ambulatory care setting preferred
- Skill in effective communication with patients, providers, and colleagues in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- Ability to demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and strong clinical judgment.
- Knowledge of Medical Assistant procedures including triage, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, wound care, EKGs, medication administration within scope, and documentation standards.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and respond calmly and effectively during urgent or high-volume situations.
- Ability to coach and support others while maintaining a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA required or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)-American Medical Technologists required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required
