Job Summary

The Interventional Radiology Technologist performs specialized imaging procedures to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating vascular and non-vascular conditions. This role is responsible for operating advanced imaging equipment, maintaining sterile technique, monitoring patient safety, and supporting clinical teams during interventional procedures. The technologist ensures high-quality diagnostic images and contributes to patient care throughout the procedural workflow.

Essential Functions
  • Performs interventional imaging procedures using fluoroscopic and radiographic equipment in accordance with physician orders, safety standards, and sterile protocols.
  • Prepares procedure rooms, equipment, and supplies, including sterile trays and contrast materials, ensuring readiness for scheduled and emergent cases.
  • Verifies patient identity, obtains informed consent, explains procedures, and provides pre- and post-procedure education and instructions.
  • Assists physicians during procedures by anticipating needs, managing equipment, and maintaining clear communication.
  • Applies appropriate positioning techniques and immobilization to obtain optimal images while considering patient comfort and clinical indications.
  • Adheres to aseptic and sterile techniques throughout the procedure, including draping, catheter handling, and supply management.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of imaging performed, supplies used, and patient monitoring in the electronic medical record and PACS.
  • Exercises hemostasis protocols and catheter removal techniques in accordance with facility policy.
  • Follows conscious sedation monitoring protocols and supports patient observation during recovery as needed.
  • Participates in inventory management, including ordering and tracking interventional supplies such as catheters, wires, and stents.
  • Ensures radiation safety practices are followed at all times and adheres to ALARA principles.
  • Collaborates with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare providers to support continuity of care and efficient case turnover.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in Interventional Radiology preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in interventional imaging equipment and sterile technique.
  • Knowledge of radiation safety and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and respond effectively in high-acuity or emergent situations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including use of electronic health records and PACS.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.
  • Critical thinking skills and ability to follow complex procedural workflows.
Licenses and Certifications
  • ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire required
  • (VI) ARDMS or ARRT - Vascular Interventional preferred
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred
