Job Summary
The Histology Technologist is responsible for performing all technical procedures in the histology laboratory, including the preparation, processing, embedding, cutting, and staining of tissue specimens for microscopic examination by a pathologist. This role ensures the accuracy and quality of all histologic preparations and adheres to established laboratory protocols, regulatory guidelines, and safety procedures. The Histology Technologist plays a critical role in diagnostic accuracy and patient care by producing high-quality slides for pathologic interpretation.

This role ensures the accuracy and quality of all histologic preparations and adheres to established laboratory protocols, regulatory guidelines, and safety procedures. The Histology Technologist plays a critical role in diagnostic accuracy and patient care by producing high-quality slides for pathologic interpretation.
Essential Functions
- Receives, processes, embeds, cuts, stains, and prepares tissue specimens using routine, special, and immunohistochemical staining techniques in accordance with established protocols.
- Operates and maintains complex histology instruments and equipment; performs preventative maintenance and troubleshooting as required.
- Performs and documents quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and consistency in testing results and compliance with accreditation standards.
- Verifies specimen identification and correlates with requisition data to ensure accurate labeling and documentation; investigates and resolves discrepancies.
- Maintains a clean and organized laboratory workspace; ensures proper disposal of biological waste and adheres to safety and infection control procedures.
- Prepares reagents and staining solutions, ensuring correct labeling, storage, and availability; monitors supply levels and notifies appropriate personnel when restocking is needed.
- Performs clerical duties related to specimen logging, documentation, and data entry; may assist with cytology pre-analytic functions based on departmental needs.
- Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific and population-specific considerations when processing tissue specimens.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 1-2 years of experience in a histology laboratory preferred
- Ability to solve problems and innovate solutions.
- Demonstrated detail-orientation and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work autonomously and contribute as a team.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with healthcare personnel.
- Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Knowledge of and adherence to lab safety protocols and procedures.
- Histotechnologist (HTL) required or
- Histotechnician (HT) required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support
