Job Summary
The Health Unit Coordinator provides administrative and clerical support to clinical units, contributing to the efficient operation of patient care areas. This role performs a variety of duties including data entry, charge capture assistance, supply management, patient rounding, and customer service. The Health Unit Coordinator works collaboratively with nursing, physicians, and support teams to enhance patient experience and ensure timely communication and organization within the unit.
Essential Functions
The Health Unit Coordinator provides administrative and clerical support to clinical units, contributing to the efficient operation of patient care areas. This role performs a variety of duties including data entry, charge capture assistance, supply management, patient rounding, and customer service. The Health Unit Coordinator works collaboratively with nursing, physicians, and support teams to enhance patient experience and ensure timely communication and organization within the unit.
Essential Functions
- Provides clerical support including data entry, maintenance of logs, spreadsheets, and records to support unit operations.
- Assists in auditing and reviewing patient charts and records for accuracy and completeness of charges; reports discrepancies as needed.
- Demonstrates proficient use of applicable software and systems for unit operations, including EHR, charge entry, and department-specific applications.
- Responds promptly to patient call lights, visitor questions, and staff requests to support communication and patient comfort.
- Rounds on patients to promote a positive experience and relays feedback or concerns to appropriate staff.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment, submits orders, and ensures cleanliness and organization of unit spaces.
- Supports EMS and visitor areas by ensuring food, beverages, and amenities are adequately stocked and maintained.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare or clerical support role preferred
- Prior experience supporting emergency or acute care units preferred
- Proficiency with hospital information systems, electronic medical records, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer service skills with a professional and compassionate demeanor.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- BCLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) or American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) BLS required
