Job Summary

The Electrician will be responsible for the maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the hospital or healthcare facility. This includes ensuring the safety and functionality of all electrical systems in patient care areas, common spaces, and other facility infrastructure. The Electrician must maintain equipment and systems in good operating condition to ensure minimum down time, maximum efficiency and equipment life.

Essential Functions
  • Maintains, and repairs electrical systems, equipment, and wiring in accordance with hospital codes and regulations.
  • Ensures proper functioning of emergency power systems, including backup generators, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems, and related components.
  • Installs and maintains lighting systems, HVAC systems, and electrical panels throughout the facility.
  • Conducts regular inspections of electrical systems to identify potential issues and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots electrical issues, diagnose malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs in a timely manner.
  • Tests electrical systems and circuits using specialized equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.
  • Ensures all electrical work is performed in compliance with National Electrical Code (NEC), local building codes, and hospital safety standards.
  • Follows strict infection control protocols and safety procedures in sensitive hospital environments, especially in patient care areas.
  • Maintains clear and accurate records of work performed, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • Works closely with the facilities team to address emergency repairs and scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborates with contractors and other service providers as needed to ensure high standards of quality and safety.
  • Provides support and training to other staff members regarding electrical systems and safety protocols when necessary.
  • Responds to electrical emergencies and outages swiftly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to hospital operations.
  • Assists in the activation and maintenance of backup power systems during power failures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or technical disciplines in Plant Operations, HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience as an electrician, preferably in a healthcare or hospital setting required
  • Less than 2 years as a journeyman planning work and working unsupervised required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards, especially in healthcare environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficient in using electrical tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Licenses and Certifications
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State required
  • Must be licensed or qualified for electrician's license in the State of Tennessee required
  • Certificate from trade school or apprentice program preferred
  • Some college preferred
  • Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Refrigeration License, (level 2) 608 preferred
State Specific Requirements
  • Alaska: State of Alaska License related to specialty (Electrical, Plumbing...), required.
  • Alaska: State of Alaska Class 2 Boiler License, preferred
