Job Summary
The Director, Pharmacy Operations provides leadership and oversight of pharmacy services across facilities. This role is responsible for advancing operational performance, regulatory compliance, and standardization of pharmacy practices to support safe, effective, and efficient medication management. The Director partners with clinical and operational leaders to optimize pharmacy services, enhance patient outcomes, and support organizational goals.
Essential Functions
The Director, Pharmacy Operations provides leadership and oversight of pharmacy services across facilities. This role is responsible for advancing operational performance, regulatory compliance, and standardization of pharmacy practices to support safe, effective, and efficient medication management. The Director partners with clinical and operational leaders to optimize pharmacy services, enhance patient outcomes, and support organizational goals.
Essential Functions
- Provides oversight of pharmacy operations across facilities, ensuring alignment with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
- Develops and implements strategies to optimize medication management processes, operational efficiency, and quality outcomes.
- Establishes and maintains standardized policies, procedures, and workflows to support consistency across pharmacy operations.
- Monitors and analyzes pharmacy performance metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborates with clinical, nursing, and medical staff to support safe and effective medication use and interdisciplinary care delivery.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and accreditation requirements related to pharmacy operations and medication management.
- Supports financial performance through budget oversight, resource allocation, and cost management initiatives.
- Provides leadership, guidance, and support to pharmacy leaders across facilities, promoting professional development and operational excellence.
- Leads or participates in system-wide initiatives, including technology implementations and process improvement efforts.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required or
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in hospital or health system pharmacy operations required
- 4-6 years of leadership experience with accountability for pharmacy operations, clinical services, or system-level initiatives required
- Experience driving standardization, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance across multiple facilities preferred
- Experience with pharmacy informatics, automation, or medication-use technology initiatives preferred
- Advanced understanding of hospital pharmacy operations, including medication-use systems, clinical pharmacy services, and distribution models.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., CMS, Joint Commission, state boards of pharmacy) impacting pharmacy services.
- Ability to evaluate operational and clinical performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead system-wide initiatives, influence stakeholders, and drive adoption of standardized practices.
- Strong business and financial acumen, including budget management, cost containment strategies, and resource optimization.
- RPH - Registered Pharmacist required
- Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification preferred
