Job Summary
The Director, Labor & Delivery provides strategic and operational leadership to the Labor & Delivery unit, ensuring the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered care for expectant mothers and newborns. This role oversees clinical operations, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards. The Director collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote safety, efficiency, and positive patient outcomes in a high-acuity environment.
Essential Functions
The Director, Labor & Delivery provides strategic and operational leadership to the Labor & Delivery unit, ensuring the delivery of exceptional, patient-centered care for expectant mothers and newborns. This role oversees clinical operations, staff development, and quality improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards. The Director collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to promote safety, efficiency, and positive patient outcomes in a high-acuity environment.
Essential Functions
- Provides leadership and oversight for all operations of the Labor & Delivery unit, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and patient care standards.
- Develops and implements policies, procedures, and evidence-based practices to optimize care delivery and patient outcomes.
- Monitors and analyzes clinical and operational performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
- Oversees recruitment, training, and professional development for nursing and support staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and hospital policies.
- Manages departmental budgets, including resource allocation, staffing, and supply management, to achieve financial and operational efficiency.
- Collaborates with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and support a seamless care continuum.
- Leads quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety, reduce clinical variation, and improve patient satisfaction.
- Serves as a liaison between Labor & Delivery staff, hospital administration, and other departments, ensuring effective communication and teamwork.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
- Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred
- 7-9 years of clinical nursing experience with at least three (3) years in Labor & Delivery required
- 2-4 years of leadership experience required
- Comprehensive knowledge of Labor & Delivery nursing practices, maternal-fetal medicine, and evidence-based care standards.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage high-acuity clinical environments and multidisciplinary teams.
- Analytical skills to evaluate performance data, identify trends, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with staff, patients, families, and leadership.
- Financial acumen for budget management and resource optimization.
- ACHRN - Advanced Certified Hyperbaric Registered Nurse required
- ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 6 months of employment required
- NALS - Neonatal Advanced Life Support within 3 months of employment required or
- NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation within 3 months of employment required
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) American Heart Association required within 3 months of employment required
- C-EFM - Electronic Fetal Monitoring preferred
- RNC - Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Neonatal Nursing preferred
