Job Summary
The CT Technologist is responsible for performing advanced computed tomography (CT) imaging procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. This role ensures high-quality cross-sectional images for radiologist interpretation while providing compassionate patient care. The CT Technologist demonstrates expertise in CT imaging protocols, patient safety, radiation protection, and contrast administration while maintaining compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
Schedule: Evenings, PRN, as needed

The CT Technologist demonstrates expertise in CT imaging protocols, patient safety, radiation protection, and contrast administration while maintaining compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
- 2-4 years of clinical experience acquired through an accredited radiologic sciences program required
- 3-5 years of experience as a CT Technologist in an acute care hospital setting preferred
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist as applicable by state required
- CT - Computed Tomography certification issued by ARRT required
- BCLS - Basic Life Support within 90 days of hire required
- (R) ARDMS or ARRT - Radiographer preferred
- Performs CT imaging procedures with accuracy and efficiency, following established protocols to produce high-quality diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation. Operates and adjusts CT equipment to optimize image clarity while ensuring patient safety.
- Prepares patients for CT exams, including screening for contraindications, obtaining accurate medical history, and providing clear instructions. Ensures proper patient positioning to achieve optimal imaging results.
- Ensures accurate patient identification, verifies physician orders, and screens patients for contraindications to the examination.
- Explains procedures clearly to patients, addressing questions to alleviate fear and anxiety, and provides instructions during and after the exam.
- Administers contrast media as ordered, following hospital policies and safety guidelines. Monitors patients for potential allergic reactions and takes appropriate action if necessary.
- Uses the I-Stat device to perform creatinine level testing and calculates glomerular filtration rate (GFR) when required for contrast studies. Ensures proper documentation and follows contrast administration protocols based on lab results.
- Assists in interventional CT procedures, including biopsies and drain placements, by preparing sterile fields, assisting radiologists, and ensuring patient comfort throughout the procedure.
- Responds to emergency situations, including adverse reactions to contrast media, changes in patient condition, or critical imaging requests. Follows hospital protocols and collaborates with medical staff to ensure patient safety.
- Adheres to radiation protection standards by applying ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) principles to minimize radiation exposure to patients, self, and others. Uses shielding and proper scanning techniques to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Performs quality control checks on CT equipment, verifying calibration, accuracy, and functionality before procedures. Troubleshoots minor technical issues and reports any malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Reviews and verifies imaging orders, documentation, and patient history to ensure the correct procedures are performed. Accurately records information in the radiology information system (RIS) and electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintains a clean, organized, and fully stocked work area by managing inventory levels, restocking necessary supplies, and ensuring that all CT equipment and accessories are readily available for use.
- Collaborates with radiologists, department leadership, and vendors to update and maintain CT scan protocols. Documents protocol changes and ensures consistent application across all staff.
- Trains and educates CT technologists on protocols, best practices, equipment use, and safety standards.
- Serves as a mentor and resource for CT staff, providing guidance, technical support, and promoting continuous improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
